THE ELI EXPERIENCE - COMMUNITY. ACADEMICS. CULTURE.

Casey Poe

Hello and welcome to the University of Utah’s English Language Institute (ELI)!

Since 1990, our mission has been to provide our students with the opportunity to learn English in an academic setting, make new friends, and experience American culture in an enriching and welcoming program on the beautiful University of Utah campus.

ELI is an Intensive English Program offering eight levels of English proficiency covering the skills needed for successful communication in academic and non-academic environments. ELI students who complete level 8 with a "B" average or higher can be admitted to the University of Utah's undergraduate program without a TOEFL or IELTS score.

We support the idea that learning English requires more than just classroom events – it’s an overall experience. We encourage students to take advantage of all that is available to them.  In ELI classrooms, students are supported by creative, experienced, and dedicated instructors.  Our teachers have experience teaching in the U.S. and in other countries. This means they understand the experience ELI students go through while studying in our program and can offer beneficial advice on how to achieve success while studying in the United States.

The ELI staff are here to support students regarding everyday life in Utah – from maintaining visa status to navigating transportation.  We offer a variety of activities such as hiking in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, exploring museums, enjoying a fun event in downtown Salt Lake City, or planning a trip to southern Utah.

I look forward to welcoming you to ELI and sharing our amazing school and beautiful state with you!

With Happiness,
